General:
John Manning -Suposedly 1st cousin to Patrick Maurice McMahon, avid Irish speaker even after coming to the States.

Served in the Irish Brigade of the British Army for seven years and saw service in India.

Departed Queensland (now Cobb, Co Cork) on "Scotland" on 1 February 1867. Arrived in New York, N.Y. 22 February 1867 with brither in law Michael Williams and Michaels cousin John Downs.

Filed declaration of intention to become a citizen of the United States on 29 February 1868.

John Manning lived with his sister Catherine and brother in law at 155 Ann Arbor (now Joy Road) Township next door to John Downs in Ann Arbor, MI

Catherine Trehy's second husband, Daniel Flynn, was exiled from Ireland because he was a member of Senn Fein (We Ourselves) c. 1867-'68 . He was sent to Canada where he met other Fenians. He became involved in the Erie Uprising and the blowing up of the Welland Canal. The Canadians sent him off and he came to Ann Arbor, Michigan.

His brither John was married to Margaret Trehy, Catherines sister.
